Myocardial Contusion

Myocardial contusion or heart contusion is bruising of the heart muscles. It usually occurs from severe blunt trauma to the chest causing the sternum to compress the heart against the spinal column. This trauma leads to an alteration in the heart cells fluid composition, which in turn lead to an alteration in the heart's electrical activity and leads to abnormal heart rhythm.
